    Criminally, Raging Bull is another on my #filmsIownbuthaventseenyet list

    As always, Scorsese brings his customary visual masterclass in motion and movement whilst getting the very best out of DeNiro as the bruising Jake La Motta.

    Raging Bull is simmering study of rage and jealousy both in the ring and out. I always knew it was a contender, but I can't believe it took me so long to give it a shot.

    I was drawn to this after watching Jonathan Glazer's Under The Skin and it clearly demonstrates his steps from music video maestro to top class filmmaker.

    A stylish spin on the beaten-to-death British crime thriller, elevated by the performances of Winstone and Kingsley and the deep slice of black humour running through it.

    I've got minor gripes about the ending and thin character motivations in places, but overall it's pacey, innovative visual storytelling and the antidote to the swathes of reheated British thrillers that became such a cliche.

    This is a woozy, alternative take on the rom com and succeeds on many levels.

    The hypnotic, rhythmic score, faintly-surreal visuals, and unsettling, hounding camera moves won't be to everyone's taste, but they propel the simple story of a psychologically-fractured guy's attempt to engage with love to a new level.

    Adam Sandler is a revelation in the buttoned-up, anxious role of Barry Egan. Even his fits of violence controlled and tightly wound.

    Seymour-Hoffman (RIP) is sadly underused, but Sandler more…
