  The cinematic experience itself can make something familiar feel like you’re seeing it for the first time again. James Benning’s films have always provided such an experience, in his case predominantly to deconstruct the tension between people/manmade structures and the natural environments with which they come in contact. Nightfall, however, demonstrates cinema’s inherent functions at their most base and subliminal. Its runtime and seemingly minimalist nature leads to the question: which really shapes the experience - the film, or the spectator?
