This is near the top of my list of my favorite films, not only because the director filmed it over a 12 year period instead of casting new actors at different ages, but because the film is so genuine. The dialogue, the interactions between the characters, the setting, it all feels so real. There's no plot to this movie as such, it's just a film about a family with divorced parents and their children growing up in Texas, and that's it. Despite that seemingly basic premise, it's an amazing film.
A film about the eponymous "deal" between Gordon Brown and Tony Blair, it is the first in what is known colloquially as the "Blair Trilogy", following along with The Queen (2006) and The Special Relationship (2010), each dealing with impactful moments in Tony Blair's premiership. This film however talks about the Labour Party's political machinations behind the scenes while the Tories are in power, during the premierships of Margaret Thatcher and later John Major. As an American I wasn't overwhelmed…
