This movie does many things well; Kristen Stewart delivers a captivating lead performance, Katy O’Brian showcases previously unseen range, Ed Harris delivers another stone-cold villain, and the set pieces establish an immersive setting based on the late-1980s bodybuilding scene.
On the other hand, Love Lies Bleeding fails in that it’s a film with no identity. As the plot advances, the movie waffles between being a romance and a psychological thriller, among other things, before giving up and coasting through to a messy, flat finish.
