"What do you want to be?"...."Whatever they don't want me to be."

One of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen. Loaded with music from beginning to end, with Chalamet playing A Complete Dylan. Norton nailed Seeger. Barbaro's Baez was a sympathetic figure but I didn't think she had the fullness of the original's voice. But it was a lovely, captivating voice, so who cares?

    Epic effort!

Brody was dynamic, authentic and Oscar-worthy.

Fascinated how a simple four-note musical theme is repeated with variations throughout. It's established triumphantly when Brody gets off the ship in the US, conveying (to me) "Arrival." And again at various moments of accomplishment. All of which seemed to give emphasis to the final scene's tribute to "Destination."

Pacino at his best--from understated to principled passion. The film captures corruption in the criminal justice system and the hopelessness of those caught up in it. Pacino's character's final progression hearkens to The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.

Uniquely unique, it defies classification—which keeps it from feeling dated.

Charles Laughton’s directing debut was panned so badly he never gave it another shot. Makes you wonder what other stunning works of art we've missed out on, had critics and the public been open to his creative deviation from movie-making norms.
