  gorgeous revival of a seminal gothic horror film. a timeless depiction of female sexuality, desire, and sexual violation - topics that are inherently intertwined and could not be neatly set apart especially in this era. lily rose depp was a pleasant surprise, bill skarsgard freaks me out in the best way possible. I imagine we’ll see a lot more similarly dark films echoing the theatrical releases after the 1917 spanish flu and great depression. how exciting!

  it took me three days to finish this “film” because I just had to keep pausing it every 20-30 minutes to mentally process the shitshow that it was. I am 100% certain this shit is only getting awards buzz because the academy wants to be like LOOK WE’RE SO PROGRESSIVE WE LOVE TRANS PEOPLE EVEN WHEN THEYRE MEXICAN!!!!!!!! this movie is my 9/11 the world has truly gone to shit if this is best picture material.

  oscars best picture formula: portray muslims as some kind of crazed zombie horde and americans (and the CIA of all people) as civilised noble victors. it’s a thrilling watch if you watch it with no political context or critical thinking though. empty skull movie.
