this was a chop for me. clearly wanted to be a campy horror comedy but didn’t go anywhere near far enough with it, literally 90% of the comedy was little kids saying curse words
the choice to have bill start narrating the film using the same exact voice hal had narrated the first two thirds of the film with was so confusing

My Dead Friend Zoe 2024
got a video message from the filmmaker before it started labeling it as a dark comedy so u can imagine my disappointment when i felt like none of the jokes were that funny. i also found the decision of a white man to make an autobiographical film where he’s a black woman to be an interesting one but hey what do i know! regardless this movie was good albeit pretty formulaic, the performances of merit and her grandfather were fantastic

i can’t believe it took me this long to see this. loved how this film was structured and i thoroughly enjoyed all 3 acts. only thing docking it for me was some of the dialogue during the kevin/chiron beach scene felt a bit unnatural to me. but it’s such a small critique. all of the actors KILLED THIS. and this film uses silence in such a powerful way, i feel like we learn more through the pauses than from the dialogue. def an all timer for me
