Yes, the love story part is sickening, but the way they've put it you feel bad for the main character in the end and worse for what naive Lo had to go through. I almost liked Humbert Humbert in the film but I was snapping back to reality by keeping their ages in mind.

The entire film is through the perspective of a recently puberty striken boy who falls in love Malèna, so all the overly sexualised scenes can be justified in a way, but don't quite sit well. The fact that nobody is ready to help a lonely helpless woman just because they've created this particular image of her in their head is so wrong.
