Honestly, I loved it. Skarsgård was phenomenal. From the minute I heard that voice that he somehow conjured I just sat back and enjoyed the ride. I want to go and see it in the cinema again - and that’s something I’ve never really thought about doing with any other film. Well done, Eggers!
At the risk of using a pun, it was bloody awful. This is a vampire film for people who don’t like vampire films.
I’ll state right off the bat that I’m not a fan of Marvel films, I’m coming to this as a Hammer Horror girl, so this film really wasn’t made for me. With this in mind it’s probably unfair of me to dismiss it. Still, it really was shit.
I do love Jared Harris and Matt Smith, which was my reason for giving this a go. More fool me!
I’ll just go watch Nosferatu again.
“Slicing up eyeballs, ah-ha-ha-ho”
Yeah, there’s a lot of eyeball related horror in this film that even made ME wince, and I can put my contacts in by touch alone! Those suffering from
Ommetaphobia should definitely steer clear!
Christopher Lee absolutely smoulders in this genuinely quite horrible film, rocking the moustache to the maximum degree. There’s a lot of comedic “by Jove, we’re British, don’t you know!” from him and Cushing. And then Telly Savalas makes a very unexpected appearance.…
Some really great scenes in this, almost folk horror in places. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it given some of the reviews I read. A solid offering from Hammer, I thought! Very nice to see Shane Briant again after having just watched Straight On Til Morning. Michael Hordern a treat, as ever. I should probably add the disclaimer that I’m an only child, so probably less disturbed by the plot line than those with siblings!
