Hugh Grant manages to create a very convincing, knowledgeable and surprisingly threatening antagonist to juxtapose the apparent initial nativity and blindness of the two co-victims. The film introduces solid lighthearted undertones (largely through Grant’s character) at just the right moments to not feel forced or take away from the overall atmosphere of the strong psychological horror themes running throughout this film.
