The ending scene where the two employees who'd been watching him just started talking about what else was on TV - this is the most heartbreaking and maybe freeing part.
Even though everyone watched him his whole life, even if everyone was obsessed with him up to a point, in the end he wasn't anything but a TV show with a happy ending.
