Ironic Denzel, German expressionism, cliche riddled script. Sign me up for the sequel!
This movie stinks. Where was Hellboy?? More Hellboy!!
A rigorous and tough film, both in its content and in its determination. The lighting choices are - consistently backlighting the protagonist even in daylight scenes provides an eerie dynamism to this otherwise clear cut social realist drama. The plot is very loose, yet the symbolism is a bit overbearing at times (portraits, eggs, fluids) but this is a great debut nonetheless.
All of the cinematic quality and capitalist critique I’ve gotten used to seeing and really enjoy - and this is perhaps his widest screen epic to date, but also without the bite of his Korean language films (like parasite, mother, memoirs of murder), which was the case with Okja too.
