I can't ever really fully get on board with Lanthimos for some reason. While I really appreciate the trait of characters or people earnestly saying what they're thinking out loud in surprisingly forthright ways in, say, the writing of George Saunders or the music of Jonathan Richman, I find Lanthimos's particular brand doesn't speak to me as much, though it works about as well as it can work here and makes the most sense given the context.
