Imagine if Taika Waititi and Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed a film.
I loved The Babadook so I was excited for this film, but it's a pretty flat revenge tale. Not trusting its audience to sufficiently revile the baddies, it explicitly depicts nigh every form of villainy (thank God there were no kittens in Tasmania, they definitely would've been stomped with an evil cackle).
It is a punishing film and there's little to distinguish itself from the genre.
