this was a good watch with plenty of dysfunction in the family. i loved the tension between the eldest and youngest brothers, the middle one feeling suffocated in between; they would be drinking together after 24 years in a scene and fighting about things that happened before 24 years in another. i also loved the separate relationships of the brothers to their dying mother.
the cousin-romance subplot felt unnecessary. i guess the director thought of the possibility that the cousins…

One of the hit comedy films of our childhood. How badly has this aged? Marrying off your sister to a rapist tutor? Gaslighting the rape saying she didn’t cry or utter a sound which would’ve warded off the rapist, which is because she wasn’t raised by a mother. This was very painful to rewatch. If you’d like a movie where everything is blamed on women, this is it. I remember the absolute shock on my face when I rewatched this as an adult. The pure shock how these ‘jokes’ were thought to be funny.
