Hiroshima Mon Amour 1959
I will remember you as the symbol of love's forgetfulness. I will think of this story as of the horror of forgetting.
The deeply personal conversation between a Japanese architect and a French actress forms the basis of Hiroshima Mon Amour. As they recount previous romances and life experiences, the film dives into a pondering meditation on love, loss, trauma and memory. It neatly entwines a couple’s lovemaking, documentary footage from the war and nuclear devastation, instigating Hiroshima's exploration of both personal and collective memory.
