Rosemary's baby pioneers an entire genre and is probably one of the most referenced and influential films of all time. My experience with it is marred, marred by the ripples of water that I saw before I got to the boulder which caused them. I think it is a terrific movie and worthy of praise, however, I found myself struggling to enjoy it as I have experienced the work of so many others that have paid their tribute to this…

Context: I am a cradle Catholic who admires the direction of the current current church guided by Pope Francis, unlike many converts and tradcaths. I believe progressive values to be a natural consequence of living in a way that brings honor and pleasure to Christ.

Now, this movie is a fantastic dramatized look into the election of a new pope. The cast from top to bottom puts on incredible performances. So many details are present and accurate; of course there…

I watched this as a double feature with The Joker. This movie, unlike The Joker or Snowpiercer, respects the intelligence of its audience. Laugh at me, but I think this is a nuanced film about classism that I can get behind. The marginalized main cast isn't literally on the caboose of a train, are fed bug protein bars, or start a civil uprising because "You Wouldn't Get It." It's a family of grifters trying to survive, and you know they are not the heroes.

A worthy successor to one of my favorite movies. I think BR2049 is really good, despite my slight preference for the original. However, I find it just that: really good. I don't see this as a landmark piece of media like many others, but it still rocks.
