This was a disappointing Film. First, the positives: its a nuanced portrayal of a complex, flawed man. Penelope Cruz is fantastic. Adam Driver is good (though at times more Adam Driver with a wig and accent than Enzo Ferrari).
Sadly though I felt it completely lacked stakes. I just did not care about any of the story. Even in the race sequences, I just didn’t care. The film spends no time building stakes or getting you invested in its (often cold and stoic) characters. There are also a lot of scenes that left me asking “what?”. Also why do the crashes look so terrible?

This is the quintessential Dad-movie. But its also a great film, with excellent performances (held back only by some at times clunky writing - especially for Catriona Balfe whose character could have been fleshed out more) and really amazing race sequences. Despite its title, most of the conflict takes place within the Ford camp which makes for an engaging anti-corporation thread. Having said that, I wish we’d seen more of the Ferrari side which would have made the final race…
