Today was supposed to be a recuperation day, a day to recover some sleep. But my dog died, so after I got home I decided to put this on instead. Maybe not the best film to watch right after your dog dies but the Bergman binge must go on.
The film is cold, desolate and isolating, yet at the same time filled with such depth and understanding. Sven Nykvist's compositions unparalleled here as he uses closeups and frames within frames…

Sometimes you watch a film and you can immediately tell the director does this for the love of the game. All the homages to classic cinema, a distinct style completely envelopes you, a hilarious story that keeps you engaged to the last twist.
