  somehow this film made less sense to me on the second watch. maybe it was because i had spent 10 hours at uni that day, or maybe because people in the front were moving their mouths a lot like a rat (YAPPA YAPPA YAPPA). but i still fucked with it heavy !!

  When Harry Met Sally... 1989

  A lot of the romance narratives I grew up with were incredibly static - whirlwind love affairs unfolding over a course of the few days, maybe a few hours (cough cough Romeo & Juliet). Although these types of situations certainly exist, it’s so refreshing to see a love story take root in a friendship, unfold over a series of years, and have a hell of a lot of obstacles before it comes to fruition. Yes it’s cliché… yes it’s heteronormative… yes it makes a weird joke about Ethiopian food… but I love this movie goddamnit!!!

  My main issue with this movie is how it depicts sexual abuse in a way that simply does not happen in real life. There’s no fabricated, untimely conspiracy developed by a child when they tell someone of the abuse they’ve endured. Most, if not almost all child sexual abuse reports are proven and real.

  So many awful people get away with pedophilia, especially in the film industry. We don’t need a film sympathising with them and blaming others.
