    Kishkindha Kaandam

    ★★★★★

In an already incredible collection of Malayalam movies of 2024, Kishkindha Kaandam is an exemplary addition with a tightly wound script. A mystery film that smoothed out its edges to avoid elements that still haunt contemporary thrillers of Indian cinema, Kishkindha Kaandam boasts some of the finest performances of Asif Ali & Vijayaraghavan. They effectively portray a realistic father-son duo embroiled in a swirl of problems. The lesser said of the movie's plot, the better; I would suggest one to go watch it directly. Highly recommended, indeed.

    The Penguin

    ★★★★½

The Penguin manages to do something that no other series could, it can confuse the viewer on whether to support or hate the titular character of the show. The Wild Robot

    ★★★★★

The Wild Robot is an endearing adaptation of the series of books by Peter Brown. Easily the best animated movie of 2024, the Wild Robot uses the trope of reluctant people being parents and creates a new spin on it. The tale of wild animals that eventually embrace the titular robot is wholesome and plays well along with the themes of parenthood, unity, and patience.

Laapataa Ladies (2024) is an endearing tale of two lost ladies who rediscover their destinies due to unforeseen events. This character-driven work of art provides redeeming qualities for each character, reminiscent of a Ruskin Bond story brought to life. The film condemns ancient customs like dowry and spousal abuse prevalent in India, while also highlighting feminism and the right to education for women without being preachy. The lead performances by Nitanshi, Pratibha, Sparsh, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam stand out in this movie. It sets a high standard for Indian cinema that viewers can expect more of.
