Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time 2021
Yeah the CG Rei head was unsettling but, honestly, just the spectacle of the close up on normal robot-faced Rei “the blue hair anime girl (y’know, from that one show)” fuckin Ayanami, fifty two feet tall on the IMAX screen, looking out on a dark theater full of mortal beings (myself included) gathered to watch this film, filled me with a unique and powerful sense of cosmic unease that I will likely experience only a handful of times in my life.

Kurosawa also suffers from a sickness and that sickness is having too many bangers
I feel like this one more than any other of his is one I could be a huge film studies nerd about cause there’s just so much to dig into here. Need to grab my criterion from back home and pour over the bonus material.
Also I love gruff samurai Mifune, but can we appreciate greasy-slick, clean-shaven, kinda goofy, kinda scary, young Mifune here?
