The adaptation of a small section of Tolkien's appendices, the plot stretches on to the point where it doesn't quite feel like a story that's even remotely related to the essence of Tolkien lore.
It is mediocre at best. Could've been worse if not for the background score, songs and decent animation. Kenji Kamiyama being the director was one of the key reasons that urged me to watch the film but that's just about it.

The last historical drama film I had watched was probably Kingdom of Heaven last year by Ridley Scott. I liked it a lot and from then on, decided to watch every newly released period dramas. 'The Last Duel' by the same director was, in my opinion, a much better film from directorial standpoint and screenplay.
