Interesting plot, but runtime could be halved. If Benitez was clarified to be a woman, I think it ends on a much more cohesive theme (women’s role in the church), but leaving Benitez ambiguously intersex/trans feels like it came out of left field with no other references throughout. Yes the plane ticket and medical leave was mentioned earlier, but I think the movie would’ve benefitted from other explicitly trans references/details if that’s what they were going for.

For one of the earlier slashers, the first kill in particular is still both shocking and holds up amongst current movies. The ending (albeit clichéd now) was also actually well executed. Toying with the Christmastime setting/the clash between cozy and murderous was really fun, and the film has a warm glow that's both nice to look at, and rare amongst horror.

Really strong start, great potential. I think it tried going in too many directions, and tying up the plot sacrificed a lot of tension towards the end.
Lead actress kills her role, and Nicholas Cage channels my nightmares about Tiny Tim in a great character. The trailers hid Longleg’s face, and I think the movie would’ve benefitted from doing the same for longer. The third act, focusing on the accomplice, was a lot of tell instead of show, and could be dropped to focus more on the antagonist that’s already been built up for 2/3rds of the movie.
