The Brutalist 2024
I felt like this was trying to do a million different things at once and it never really landed with the force its early momentum promised, and yet somehow they pretty much pulled it off. Everyone is acting their pants off and the whole thing just looks so stupendously beautiful. Glad I caught it in a cinema.

Malignant 2021
I have never seen a movie lose the run of itself so completely and so spectacularly as this. The final 30 minutes or so are absolutely nuts. Nothing makes sense. The predictable plot, stale acting, lazy jump scares and horror clichés all seem to suddenly collapse under the weight of their cumulative tedium at around the 80 minute mark into what can only be described as the true essence of the genre’s form. I really cannot describe how hilariously fun it gets.

Little Miss Sunshine 2006
This film is like drinking warm expensive sparkling water that’s been backwashed several times by people who picked it up thinking it was still water, but realising it wasn’t, decided to spit it back into the bottle for some other unfortunate person to have to swallow. It is this vicious cycle of spitting and swallowing that explains the success of this movie. I refuse to believe that anyone truly enjoys it.
