The bad: it's too similar to A New Hope, and the unexplained lore in this film is not fascinating but infuriating.
The good: what a breath of fresh air after the absolute slogs the prequels were. Finally, some fun in Star Wars. Beautifully shot, great actors, amazing VFX... it's an actual movie!
After the exhilarating conclusion to the second film... this one muddles along and waffles about. Splitting the final film into 2 parts was not a good decision.
There's still interesting concepts and some clever scenes... it's still good, just a step down from the previous films.

A really refreshing action movie. Instead of the usual extreme testostorne-filled manly-man action film we get a slick and stylish nonstop thrill ride that is effortlessly cool. It's a bit cheesy and over-the-top, but it services the awesome ridiculousness of the film's world.
Banger soundtrack too.
