  My mouth went agape somewhere in the first hour of this movie and just never went back to normal for the whole film. It’s still like that as I write this.

  As a teacher, it is impossible not to be offended by the constant narrative in “teacher movies” that the only way educators can be effective in the classroom is by not teaching the material they are supposed to. 

  As a modern teacher (and generally ethical person), it is impossible not to get hung up on the flood of unethical behavior and boundary-crossing between Thackeray and his students here.

  As a movie-lover, unfortunately, it is impossible for me to pretend that this movie is, nonetheless, very, very good.
