This review won’t do the film justice. I’m simply going to say “thank you, Steven Spielberg, for making this beautiful film about you and your family.”
In my opinion it’s some of the best work of his career. I will write a more thoughtful review later but I’m still too touched by this film to write anything more.
This is already on my top of 2022. “Marcel the shell, with shoes on” is a quiet reflection on life, death and the adventure in between. Told through the humorous and profound ‘eye’ of a stop-motion animated shell and his human documentarian, the Oscar-worthy film compels you to appreciate the world and all who dwell in it.
Watching “Everything” reminds me why I love making movies. This is an explosion of creative ingenuity, a spectacle of imagination, an overdose of creative sugar! And yet, woven beautifully within its gobsmacking visuals is a tiny, intimate story about a dysfunctional family and the mundane challenges they face.
Everything, Everywhere, All at Once is a once-in-a-lifetime film and I’m very glad it premiered in mine.
