I enjoyed this more than the Mister 😄 It’s true it’s a slow-burner but Josh O’Connor kept my attention as the arthouse Indiana Jones (was calling him “Mr Harrison” an in-joke?) and the ending was satisfying if a bit predictable.
Goodness, I’ve watched some bad Nic Cage films in my time but this made me cross. So much hype. I didn’t really want to watch it as I’m not a fan of scary films but other than a couple of jump scares it’s about as scary as Paddington 2. Cage is actually pretty good, unhinged without going “full Cage” but the film doesn’t make any sense at all. If I’d known about the occult nature of the movie I wouldn’t…
What a horrible film. Shouldn’t have been surprised really from the synopsis but every single character is unlikeable and the plot development just creepy. Avoid.
Watched as part of a double bill as I’d never seen either on the big screen before (far too young!).
The alien is described as being “man-sized at one point and this is because clearly, it’s a man in a rubber suit. The creature doesn’t really hold up too well although the restaurant scene is still impactful (if that’s a word).
That said, it’s obviously a classic, an inspired twist on the “final girl” trope and a reminder that if you ignore a woman’s sound advice you risk certain death, but her and her cat will definitely survive to fight another day…
