i disliked this honestly. like on one level, the most important thing about that suburban complete level of disconnection from what makes life possible is not the feeling of disconnection aesthetically but like all the structural violence that disconnection is designed to obscure and its ok if thats not the focus but its like it doesnt even conceptually exist in the world of the film. i suppose more generously it could be trying to show the dangers of living inauthentically…

Another Year 2010
This is so much about social status, class, family and money and the things that makes quietly possible under the surface.
It’s not just that Mary’s lonely. Like Gerri’s first client she wants a different life. She wants to become part of Gerri’s family, so become someone who really matters, someone Gerri actually has a stake in caring about, someone who lives in a big house and goes on nice holidays. But middle class professional people pretend to be nice and laugh at you and talk about how sad your life is and pull the drawbridges up when it matters.Translated from by -

It doesn't seem so much to be trying to understand Calum so much as trying to answer the question, did he plan this being their last time together? Did she know it? At what point does he disappear? Is it before he's gone? Is it ever? And when does she stop being at the departure gates, looking back again and again and again.
