I am quite disappointed that after presenting all the clichés expected of a horror movie and working to deconstruct them, the movie ends up falling into those same clichés completely unironically.

Before Midnight 2013
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
A lot of people seem to think that Jesse is the problematic one in the relationship, but throughout the movie, I was largely on his side. Despite being a woman and therefore seemingly predisposed to agree with Celine’s viewpoint, I found myself getting really angry about her way of jumping to insane conclusions and taking everything Jesse said in bad faith. I also kind of dislike the implication that all long-term relationships turn hostile and that that is just what “true love” looks like. Personally, I have higher aspirations for my marriage.

Lost on Everest 2020

Benny & Joon 1993
I‘m going to assume that Joon was supposed to have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Not that the movie ever bothers to specify that, I guess mental illness was specific enough. It‘s not like there are many different kinds. I‘m also not quite sure what instructions Depp was given but his acting choices constantly had me question whether his character was just weird or also had some kind of ill defined mental illness. Overall, I’m just not very impressed.
