This film, the reputation that precedes it and, generally the Way That It Is encapsulates to me just how much men are addicted to their own suffering/self-destruction:
In their self destruction, men appropriate the suffering they believe they deserve to provide. They are owed a Real Purpose like their veteran grandfathers had and they deserve to take that suffering like a Man too.
