They often say to "save the best for last" and this film is just another example. As one of the last films for this class, I think it had everything to offer: strong lead protagonists, compelling plot, emotional B-plot, action, comedy, drama, etc. With a 3-hour runtime, I initially expected the narrative to move slowly--having a lot of filler in certain parts. But, it wasn't--in all honesty--it felt like a regular 2-hour movie to sit through. From a technical standpoint,…
I honestly found this film a little difficult to watch. The excessively long pauses and breaks in between shots where they're just staring into the camera for 30 seconds to say one line, in particular, was one of the most meaningless directorial choices I've seen in a film. In general, I think the film was meant t be artistic but failed miserably--in an attempt to be unique. There was, also, no stable plot and the actors weren't that good either.…
The entire movie is shot using hand-held cameras and specific wide-angle camera lenses. This filmmaking technique was the most noteworthy thing I saw on my first viewing. The character depth and immersion that this technique offers work ideally to make the characters feel more alive and present throughout the plot. To add, this notion is supported by the use of omniscient narration that constantly interrupts the narrative to give personal details about events and characters. It gave us true insight…
The film was very interesting and had a lot of hidden meanings and allegories. It had a great screenplay and maintained my attention throughout— often I found myself smiling at certain points due to the compelling plot lines. I think the point of view of the film is what garners the emotional appeal, innocence is portrayed effectively with the actor as well. With such a small budget the film did a wonderful job of telling a compelling story with such interesting and colorful characters. After watching I am still very impressed with the artistry of the movie. Overall very entertaining.
