A half-baked plot and terribly underdeveloped characters are buoyed up by Henry Cavill‘s goofy British accent and a somewhat enjoyable (if overwrought) action sequence towards the end. Cliches and missed opportunities abound and just about every attempted character payoff falls flat.
I have never watched a movie that more fully pulled me into the narrative and made me forget that the people I’m watching are actors. This is an absolute masterpiece and I could not possibly think of a better tribute to Christopher’s life. Indescribable.
I’m usually not one for biopics for a few reasons. I wasn’t certain how well I’d be able to respond to this one given my limited knowledge of Oppenheimer’s life. However, Christopher Nolan is at his absolute best in this film - his classically dour, almost sinister touch is present even in the cheeriest of moments. The mixture of subplots is also stunningly done, with six or seven seemingly tangential threads proving to be the main bulk of the story…
