David Byrne in full genius mode.  I remember the videos from the Talking Heads on MTV when I was a teenager and some of the songs from the film with David in the big suit, but I never watched the entire film from start to finish.  So worth it to see this in its entirety in the theatre.  It’s understandable why some may think this is the greatest concert film of all time.  Jonathan Demme gives you a cinematic experience…

Saw this at AMC New Brunswick. Have to say this movie really walked the tightrope of trying to be a fun summer blockbuster popcorn movie and an existential examination of the human condition.  Ryan Gosling’s performance as Ken is a reason enough to go see this, but I was surprised how much  I cared about Margot Robbie and Rhea Pearlman’s interactions at the end of the film.  Bravo to Greta Gerwig for taking the Barbie into the modern era.

We went to see Mullholland Drive at the Metrograph cinema in NYC.  This is my son’s all time favorite film.  Having been a big fan of David Lynch (especially Blue Velvet when it came out in the 80’s), I kind of drifted away from David Lynch’s work after Wild At Heart.  It’s been great getting to rediscover him now with my son!  Naomi Watts is amazing and this film has the David Lynch signature mix of humor, dread, and atmosphere.…

Went to the Philadelphia Film Center with my son and his friends to see Andrei Rublev, having seen Solaris and Mirror previously.  Being a fan of historical pieces, I thought this movie is a fascinating look at what it means to be Russian and the role of the church and the state from the lens of the artist.  Tarkovsky creates iconic images and his characters always are allowed to stop and philosophize to each other.
