A Christmas Carol 2009
This is a must-watch for me every Christmas. This period of mad animated Robert Zemeckis films is definitely a bit uncanny but I think it works best here because of the creepy nature of the story, I remember my Gran taking me to see this when it came out and probably not realising how scary it would be in parts. A kinda just love any A Christmas Carol adaptations in general and it’s a bit of a spookier alternative to a lot of the usual holiday films.

Conclave 2024
Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci were great in this, I’d definitely say it kept me engaged the full runtime. Really liked the part near the beginning that showed the cardinals doing normal stuff like having a smoke and checking their phone, was buckled at Todesco constantly chuffing his vape lmao. The reveal near the end came out of nowhere and was a bold choice for the story.

Queer 2024
Very beautifully shot film overall, particularly in the parts set in Mexico City. I went into this pretty blind so was taken surprise by the third act in the rainforest with the ayahuasca but it was a very interesting turn. I liked that they weren’t afraid to go full on with a lot of the surreal elements. I’d be interested in looking into the novella by William Boroughs to see how it was translated to film.
