Totally heartbreaking, especially if you know anyone who has suffered through dementia. But strangely you can't stop watching, because it feels so real and mysterious and unpredictable and the acting is fabulous. No way that Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman are two of the greatest actors alive. And how can you not be charmed by Imogen Poots (can that be her real name?).
Solid and smooth, like a rolling stone. Perfectly well-tuned representation of Pete Seeger, and of the general resistance to innovations in any art form. Will definitely make you listen to the early Dylan songs in a new way.
Wonderful, as in full of wonder. I've never seen a film so visually calm and emotionally moving. Almost nothing happens that usually happens in a film--there's no sex, no one dies, nothing blows up. And yet at the end of the film, all around me in the theater people were weeping and no one wanted to leave. An excellent example of what happens when a masterful director and an masterful actor team up in a heartfelt way. And the soundtrack is fabulous.
