Robert, 25, Germany
filmmaker.
Favorites are movies that made a big impression on me recently.
What a weird little (German!!) gem. It’s so important that ARTE exists and randomly airs films like these on a sunday afternoon. Bless their souls honestly
Biggest disappointment of the year.
Striping a poignant and poetic source material of its nuanced observations about war and the human condition and turning it into a mashup of every bland war film with no emotional impact whatsoever. Kind of devastated right now. So, so terribly mediocre.
Beautiful cinematography, production and sound design but if its not tied into a coherently narrative vision… i don‘t know man it just leaves me cold. Screenplay and direction scream television to me and not cinema.
I don‘t get the hype at all.
Hong Sang-soo captures realistic dialogue like no one else. Raw, authentic, awkward, full of life and poetry hidden in the seeming banality of everyday life.
Btw, every art-house cinema should screen Hong Sang-soo films every Sunday at like noon/afternoon. Hungover film students with a pinch of melancholia would Eat. That. Shit. Up.
Looking forward to watching another one in bed tomorrow after fucking up my liver later today.
