I think I prefer The Shining a bit more for its tighter direction and more memorable characters, but this is a pretty great film. Cruise is surprisingly feels in his element in this one. I just don’t love the ending that much.

Barbie 2023
This was a good watch. I personally thing Margot Robbie is the actual standout, though Ryan Gosling was also a very energetic and fun personality. It’s message is probably it’s greatest strength, though can be a little on the nose (the smallpox line feels very forced into the script) but I understand it’s important for the point to be made. I didn’t find it as funny as some others seem to have, and the last joke particularly doesn’t land, and soils the ending a bit.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm 1993
Hard to get any better than this. When you take one of the most personal, tragic, and human superhero movie stories of all time, and combine it with BTAS’s excellent noir art style, an unstoppable voice cast headlined by Kevin Conroy, and a haunting score, it’s pretty hard to get it wrong. The half Star taken off of it is the actual animation and how limited it feels, though I don’t fault it too much considering how stunning the artwork is.
