Beneath the Planet of the Apes 1970
The camera work was much tighter, beautiful set designs, and more articulate monkey faces too! Establishing a new protagonist was executed quite well. BUT- that ending was so ABRUPT and lacked all the poeticism of the previous film. It felt like a “we ran out of budget” last minute kind of moment. I overall appreciate this movie’s strangeness and unpredictability. Half a star deducted for absolutely fumbling such a conclusion and killing its own momentum.
