Longest Day, A Bridge Too Far, and The Battle of Britain complete a trio of must see war movies pre Saving Private Ryan’s realism. The Battle of Britain was a favorite of George Lucas and its dog fight scenes were an inspiration to Star Wars in 1977. Great ensemble cast of my favorite British actors including Robert Shaw (Jaws), Christopher Plummer (Sound of Music) and a very young Ian McShane (John Wick). If you’re into classic war movies - it’s a must see.

Rolling Thunder 1977
This is a classic and probably enhances the genre of returning Vietnam vet revenge flicks. Devane and Jones make quite the splash in the last 10 minutes. For me Linda Haynes steals the show - she’s every 70’s chick you’d dream of. It’s a simple classic and worth watching.

Oppenheimer 2023
I’ll have to see it again - laser was fine but it’s no IMAX. Great cast and performances. The tension of the hearings in the end balances the building of the bombs. No words for Nolan … I can’t find them since I used all the best ones for previous films. It would be redundant to say what a great director he is.

Now let's fast forward to Silent Running, me thinks the lady doth protest to much on that title. Bruce Dern plays Freeman Lowell, the Johnny Appleseed of space.
The earth you see, is no longer a great place for vegetation or forests for that matter. So we shipped the last remaining hope to space for a while,…
