Going into this movie, I had an idea of what to expect. Truthfully, I had no idea that Hamlet was actually based on an older story. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within 2001
Plot not withstanding, this is still a beautiful movie. I’ve always loved how sci fi lends itself to advancements in filmmaking, including in animation. Akira as a tour de force is the obvious example: the height of cell animation that everyone cites as the heyday of anime. This should be held to the same acclaim, on technical advancement alone. I cannot imagine how much time was spend on Aki’s hair.
