First 90 minutes : “This movie would be better if we didn’t focus so much on the main character’s backstory/trauma. I’m sure it’ll be relevant by the end, but let’s TALK TO ALIENS.”
Last 30 minutes: “I’m sorry I ever doubted you DV.”
I couldn't get enough of Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara winning awards so I gave this a rewatch.
Guest and co. are, as always, amazing.
As always, John Goodman delivers a stellar performance. He manages to be both terrifying and hilarious in the same scene, and he does it almost effortlessly.
Horror Comedy is tough to pull off, and this was no exception to that rule. It certainly has its moments, but the jokes generally don't land, (probably due to bad writing, not knowing how to shoot for comedy, and mediocre acting). Michael Madsen has a 3 scene cameo appearance as a Dr.Loomis type that is pretty much the only saving grace.
Still better than Knight of Cups.
