The film is ok and of course still a bit of fun but I definitely felt this was a huge step down in terms of overall immersion, storytelling and quality of CGI.

To start of with an example which is emblematic of how feel about the whole film, the first scene starts off with a few ape characters climbing on top of a ruined post apocalyptic skyscraper looking for some bird eggs. While on paper this is 'impressive' for me…

War for the Planet of the Apes is a pretty incredible movie and perhaps my favourite from the entire series.

The film sets out to be quite brutal and succeeds with this goal with flying colours, showing us a depiction of war that succeeds in being harrowing even though this fictitious lens. We even get some great scenes from Woody Harrison talking about the horrors of war just to hammer it home.

Absolutely loved the first half of the film, Timothy was really fun in the role, was giving it 100 and couldn’t wait to see the next crazy thing he would say or do. Thought the film was really bright, colourful and cleverly written in a style that perhaps mimics the charm of the Paddington films (which became increasingly apparent to me with the short but memorable cameo role from Simon Farnaby). Good movie and another classic Leo role but way too long. Would be good to watch in two sittings I think.

Particularly liked the attention to detail especially in the backgrounds. There was also a lot of extras in big crowd scenes with long and really cool shots.

Another detail I quote liked was the lighting in interior scenes. The lighting was generally quite dark with the only light sources being from windows or small lights available.

Loved the cultural mixing elements and the music in the first hour of the movie. This movie was pretty good.
