    The Others

    ★★★★★

There is a reason why "The Others" is considered by most as an all-timer. Not just moody and eerie, it is also creative and absolutely striking to look at, doing away with jump scares and trusting the strength of the material to speak through. Nicole Kidman is simply remarkable, and that twist was so unexpected.

    My Boy Jack

    ★★★½

Clinically acted but flimsily shot, "My Boy Jack" tackles its worthy subject well enough but clearly shies away from taking artistic choices that would have made this great. It evidently shows that it was made for television consumption, but one must wonder how a better director and a bigger budget would have done wonders for this.

And yes, young Daniel Radcliffe and Carey Mulligan outact their movie parents in this.

    A Very Good Girl

    ★½

Petersen Vargas is in his chop suey era.

Overtly derivative and tonally confused, 'A Very Good Girl' suffers from misdirection and trying too much to make something happen by making everything happen. Dolly de Leon and Kathryn Bernardo try their best, but their talents are wasted in this 'bloody' mess, no pun intended.

    Challengers

As a massive tennis fan, it would not have been surprising for me to love "Challengers", but it is more than just fan service. Luca Guadignino crafts a kinetic and provocative showcase for his directing talents, lifting Justin Kuritzkes intriguing script into a dizzyingly display of jealousy, passion, and ambition and further buoyed by the massive star power of its three leads. And that score from Reznor and Ross is exhilarating — their best since "The Social Network".
