we journey to the limit of human understanding, drifting in in low orbit above a foreign star, prey to incomprehensible quantum phenomena and what do we find? a conversation with our ex. amazing.
as someone sympathetic to the idea that we should shoot psychologists into deep space, this was very disappointing.

this film is a mystery !!! funny and fast pace and charming and yet so cold! so relentlessly detached, almost to the point of having no drama at all!
it resists the personalisation of the past that most costume dramas fall into, but is this a good thing? does it recreate some of the mannered, detailed art of the 18th century on which it's inspired, in which events happen trivially in the corner? or is it just captivating for its distance, like dating a really good looking person who hates eye contact? i don't expect i'll ever know !!
