I love very few things more than a trans allegory rock opera

Nosferatu 2024
The lack of characterization was incredibly disappointing - particularly for Frederick and Anna and their children.
I love that when I walk out of Eggers’ films I’m usually asking myself dozens of questions about the meaning of things. This time though, I walked out wondering “how the hell did we get here?”
While a wonderful tribute to the source material, it just felt a bit barren.

mother! 2017
Like most movies that have unnamed characters, I thought this one would certainly be so pretentious that I’d laugh the whole time through. Rather, though, I found myself terrified. Terrified in a different sense than jump scares and paranormal disturbances. I was terrified in the way that Aronofsky just created hyperbolic versions of humanity. I felt uncomfortable at every turn of the film, wondering how far humans, particularly women, are conditioned to give.
I know this movie got terrible reviews from a lot of critics. I wonder what the gender break down is. I’d be willing to bet that women were far more terrified.
