I thought I'd like this more than I did. While it certainly paints its time and place vividly, it's a film that never makes any decisions. Whatever purpose it wants to use its characters and situations for, it just does... which ends up feeling like lazy writing to me.
It reminded me a bit of Bell, Book and Candle, another film where everyone's wandering around lost. But, where that film was cool and melancholy, this one involves a lot of running around and squawking.
