Too much moviecore to be anything truly special, and this is unfortunately another one of those “PG movies with R violence” type situations, but best nepo baby Jack Quaid is able to carry this very fun film on his back.

So flawed but also very fun.  The narrative is overstuffed with subplots that don’t amount to much, the dialogue is often corny, the commentary is also corny (though occasionally gratifying), and overall the film is messy, but Pattinson has more than enough charm to make up for it.  I honestly wish this was more of the weird romantic comedy or oddball sci-fi film that this threatened to be at points, instead of the social commentary crowd pleaser that we ultimately get.  Would’ve loved to see this come out before the election.

Maybe my expectations really influenced my perception of this but I’m genuinely surprised of the overall disdain toward the second half.  The first half is very much the handsomely mounted, impeccably crafted Best Picture contender that I expected, but the second half pushed this material into a darker, more audacious and experimental direction that ultimately made the final result a lot more thought-provoking.  Definitely agree that not everything needed to be shown, and there’s a chance I just have some…

Stunning.  The way the film casually evolves its tone and imagery will likely piss a lot of people off but I found it nothing short of fascinating.  Perhaps this is just unfiltered Guadagnino fucking around but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  A masterful score, as per usual for Reznor/Ross, and a genuinely shattering performance from Daniel Craig help this to be a surreal, oddly moving film that is exactly what arthouse cinema should be.  Evoked the same feeling of wonderful mystification that 2001 did when I first saw it.
