I have such an affinity to "bad women" characters — those who fail (accidentally or intentionally) to perform their culturally expected norms of what it means to be a good, "valuable" woman under patriarchy. Anu is a bad woman both ways — in that she is naturally impulsive and hedonistic, but unapologetically so. This was an action film and to that end I enjoyed it. Fight sequences were super fun. And fuck realism—I enjoyed that shark battle too! Plot line was extremely unengaging but yes, I was entertained (nothing more).

rewatching this over a decade later and this movie is probably one of my favourite on-screen depictions of Toronto. brilliant fight scenes, also the care and detail with which comic / cartoon conventions are visually translated to live action here is admirable. brilliantly crafted film, and also the soundtrack bangs ‼️
